Spencer is a highly experienced and respected radio presenter with 35 years of experience in the industry. He spent 27 years at the ABC, including 15 years hosting the top-rating ABC Brisbane breakfast show. In 2005, Spencer was named ABC Local Radio Broadcaster of the Year. He also held the position of ABC Radio Program Quality Advisor — developing presenters and producers across Australia.

In 2020, Spencer was head-hunted to host Weekends on commercial talk station 4BC. He has taught at the University of Southern Queensland and Griffith University, and is currently a PhD candidate researching the value of local radio to audiences in regional Australia.
