Spencer Howson is Queensland’s most respected and experienced radio broadcaster with over 14,000 hours of live daily talk radio under his belt.
Spencer became a household name after 24 years at the ABC, including 15 years hosting the top-rating ABC Brisbane breakfast show. In 2005, Spencer wa
s named ABC Local Radio Broadcaster of the Year.
He has extensive outside broadcast experience, having anchored live radio shows from all over Queensland – Thursday Island to Stanthorpe, Cairns to Cunnamulla, Birdsville to the Gold Coast – and beyond.
Prior to joining the ABC, he was Vice President of Queensland Radio for the Print Handicapped.
While he’s been known as the king of Queensland radio, Spencer is also known as a talented columnist and TV presenter. For three years, he wrote a column in the fortnightly glossy magazine “Bmag”, distributed to over 400,000 homes. Spencer presented the ABC TV show “Snapshot”, guest-hosted Channel Nine’s weekday magazine show “Extra”, and has been a regular commentator on Channel Seven’s “The Morning Show”.
He now writes the weekday morning email newsletter “The Gateway” for Brisbane Times and teaches the radio stars of the future at USQ Springfield campus.
Spencer is a one of a kind… he’s tirelessly curious storyteller with an energetic, friendly style. He thinks on his feet and knows the right questions to ask to tease the best out of anyone he is interviewing.
